Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific

Launched during the Shanghai Auto Show in April, 2017, the new Porsche Motorsport Asia-Pacific office is a testament to Asia’s rising prominence in global motorsport. Providing expanded access to Porsche’s extensive line-up of GT models in Asia and accompanied by stronger technical, engineering and marketing support for the region, Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific is a clear indication of Porsche’s commitment to strengthening the performance and prestige of Porsche motorsport activities around the world.

Located in Shanghai, home to Porsche China and the region’s top one-make series Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, the Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific office has already had an expansive effect on the German automaker’s regional motorsport presence in less than a year of operation. The office has offered a range of support across several series throughout the 2017 race season, including providing skilled technicians onsite for Porsche drivers, lending Porsche’s considerable media resources to Porsche entries into series such as the China GT and the Blancpain GT Series Asia. And helping launch new competitions such as the amateur-oriented Porsche GT3 Cup Trophy China in the China GT and the Cayman GT4 Trophy in the Thailand Super Series.

Leading the new office as Head of Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, Alexandre Gibot comes from a rich motorsport background including two and half years as the Motorsport Manager of Porsche China, where he helped establish the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia as one of the most successful one-make series in the region. Prior to that he was managing the Porsche Carrera Cup France from 2011 to 2014.

China GT
Championship

China GT is a nationwide championship ratified by the Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports of People’s Republic of China (CAMF), as well as authorized by the General Administration of Sports of China. The Championship is listed in the annual national sports competition plan as well as CAMF’s sporting calendar as a national level motorsport event.  Based on the principles of being ‘Fair, Just and Open’ China GT attracts both Chinese and international drivers and teams.

The China GT Championship top class is for GT3 cars, applying the principles of Balance of Performance (BOP) and a driver categorisation system.

China GT permits three type of driving pairings: Pro/Am, Am/Am and a solo Am.  In keeping with the Chinese flavour and to assist in the advancement of Chinese motorsports, each car must have at least one driver who is a holder of racing licence from the Greater China region (China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Macau).

The Championship comprises the title of Drivers’ Champion and Teams’ Champion in each of GT3, GTC, and GT4 classes.

Blancpain GT
Series Asia

Blancpain GT Series Asia is a multi-class regional GT championship, catering primarily  to GT3 and GT4 cars, with GTC cars also able to compete. To maintain a level playing field each driver’s ability has been graded one of four different colours by motorsport’s world governing body, the FIA, with each car shared by two drivers.

Each round of the Blancpain GT Series Asia consists of two x 60 minute races, with each driver required to qualify the car, and each driver to start a race. Driver pairings are traditionally Pro AM; an Amateur Driver paired with an experienced Driver. Silver / Silver Pairings can also register, subject to an adjustment and approval. The GT4 category is reserved for AM/AM pairs only.

GT3 and GT4 cars compete on-track simultaneously but fight for their own class victory. There are overall GT3 and GT4 podium ceremonies, plus separate rostrums for GT3 Pro/Am and Am/Am. Points are awarded to the top-10 overall GT3 and GT4 finishers, plus those entered in Silver Cup, Pro/Am and Am/Am.
